Welcome to CHWR@NC State

The Climate, Hydrology and Water Resources Modeling and Synthesis Group is interested in understanding, modeling and forecasting hydrological fluxes at large spatial scales based on land surface and climatic indices. Other topics of research include water resources planning and management and environmental assessment in developing countries.

The group’s primary research interest is at the interface of climate and water management focusing on large-scale hydroclimatology. Current research sponsors include National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NC Water Resources Research Institute.

Postdoctoral Research Scientist Position on Flood Attribution and Reservoir Modeling @ CHWR

We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to conduct innovative research in the newly-funded NSF project from the hydrological sciences program on flood attribution and data-driven reservoir modeling. The interest is to develop a source attribution model to explain the monthly flood maxima over the Southern US and also to use that predictive flood model with a data-driven reservoir model for flood and conservation storage management. Ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. degree in hydrology or climate or statistics with a strong background in machine learning and applied statistics. Interested candidates should submit their application (see below) with the following information: (1) curriculum vita, (2) a letter describing research interests and experience, (3) recent publications (not more than three) and (4) names and contact information for three references. For full consideration, please apply before October 1, 2022. The office of post-doctoral affairs at NC State offers excellent resources and mentoring opportunities for current post-docs to develop strong academic training. Applicants who meet the criteria should send the following materials in a single pdf file by email to Sankar Arumugam (sankar_arumugam@ncsu.edu) “Post-doc on Flood Modeling” in the subject line.

Post-doctoral and PhD Research Opportunities @CHWR

The research group is always interested in recruiting highly motivated post-doctoral research scientists and PhD students for research on climate, hydrology and water resources. The ideal candidates will have a strong background in climate, hydrological modeling and water management. Knowledge and research experience on mathematical programming, data analysis and stochastic modeling would be a plus. Applicants should have a Masters degree in water/energy/hydrology/climate or a related field. Interested applicants can  directly contact Dr. Sankar Arumugam (sankar_arumugam AT ncsu.edu).
